recently i had the fortune of taking a week long trip to play del carmen located in cancun, mexico. with the help of orbitz i booked the trip all alone. first mistake! having a pair of eyes to "wsee" the local helps. i also trimmed a litle and settled for the a la carte instead of an all inclusive resort. second mistake. spend the extra cash its worth it and cheaper!! i also thought i was being smart by booking a transportation package to and from the hotel. thrid mistake. i spent some sixty dollars, versus the misley ten dollars i would havbe spent on the bus.
i did have a good time. regardless of my second degree burns i received by walking back barefoot to the hotel! mia culpa!!
i did not take my service dog. i will suggest you take an extra cane, with a ball versus the traditional tip. the sidewalks were a bitch. groves alol over the place. do your research. take your time. dont fall into the touristy traps. the resturants were a rip off. drinks over priced. guess what? i ate very well at........walmart! they had one! it was cheap. friendly. satisfying and familiar! so,enjoy mexico but bring cash! cheers and safe travels!

Or, better yet, book All Inclussive, bring little to no cash, and eat ad drink wherever you want *these places cost less than $50 a night during the off season, Aug through October and in the summertime(, though you have to keep an eye out for offers, even in high season you can hit on good deals.
Paying nearly the same fr all inclusive and regular plans, you can sacrifice a meal or some drinks at the hotel and go out anyway, if you want a restaurant.
I]ve been twice to Cancun and once to Kozumel *an island, about 25 minutes by boat from Playa Del Carmen(.
In May the temps were great. in Jan they were on the cold side, in FEb they were fine.
I]ve been once all inclusive, and thought it was awesome. I recommend the tours strongly, the pyramid and Xel Ha tour was great, especially the all inclusive version for around $100 from Kozumel *probably around $65 from elsewhere(, the seafood restaurant there was absolutely awesome.
Bring plenty, and I mean plenty, of sun protection, I burnt to scrisp the first time, and even badly the second time, only the third time I was super careful and nearly drowned myself in sun lotion, if you buy it there, it will be considerably more expensive.
You will get a lot of offer for trying out drugs if you walk in downtown Cancun, from Extasy to pot and cocain. I was not interested in those, but apparently the prices were very cheap. I wouldn't do it as a blind person in a foreign land (I wouldn't do it in general, since alcohol is enough for me, but for those who do such things, I think a secure location where people are safe is paramount).
It's a great place to have fun for sure, someof the underground rivers are amazing, food is good, not spectacular but good, cheap if you go with lunchoffers and local joints serving local food, aovid spring break, unless you want to dig yourself from underneath drunk and sexually crazed college crowd (I have not done it, but I kow people who went during March and fond it horrific).
Cheers

I have always done all inclusive and it is amazing how much cheaper it is once you get all the expenses all added up.
I've only been to puebla, mexico city and monterey so not very touristy places but it is simply fantastic if your a history junky like I am.
